Our Technical and Practical Areas

Environment and Natural Resources

Our environment and natural resources work focuses on conserving biodiversity, promoting conservation-oriented value chains, reducing deforestation, and improving resource governance. Our collaborative approach facilitates meaningful participation and leadership from local communities and underrepresented groups to protect high-carbon ecosystems, implement nature-based solutions, build resilience, and support diverse livelihoods. Our experience spans several projects in biodiversity conservation; natural resource management and governance; climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Agriculture and Food Security

We work to find and implement innovative projects that achieve development impact, committing to strategic partnerships that promote agricultural development, economic growth, and food security. As a result, local communities experience engaged market systems, enhanced resilience, increased incomes, and improved nutrition. Our work addresses food security for vulnerable populations, ensures improved livelihoods for smallholder farmers, and provides stable access to nutritious food. We work with and through local partners to empower all market actors, facilitate access to markets and finance, reduce undernutrition, and strengthen resilience to shocks and stresses.

Water, Health and Sanitation (WASH)

We work alongside local partners and service providers to overcome complex and inter-connected challenges to achieve lasting water security and sustainable access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene for all. Through better governance, increased financing, improved evidence, and expanded private sector participation, we deliver catalytic change across the sector. Our wide range of institutional, capacity, and market development approaches expand and improve water and sanitation services with partners ranging from utility companies to pit-emptying services and hygiene micro-enterprises. Our emphasis on engagement and accountability increases access, leadership, and decision-making for everyone, especially women, youth, and under-served groups.

Circular Economy

Nature Today organises seminars, training sessions, webinars and publications on developments in the circular economy. On this interdisciplinary programme, we offer our clients the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge on the circular economy in order to support communities, businesses, and policymakers to create a more sustainable and equitable future. Nature Today promotes circularity in the following areas: waste management (e.g. in agri-food sector); sustainable and innovation-enhancing public procurement; traceability of value chains; standards and regulatory frameworks; and efficiency of trade and logistics chains.

Climate Change

We support our projects, partners, and clients to overcome climate challenges and build resilient programs through evidence-based research and analysis that identifies climate risks and vulnerabilities, incorporates climate financing to support innovative mitigation and adaptation, and strengthens livelihoods and governance structures to enhance adaptive capacity. We draw on our expertise in climate change science to develop models that account for the complicated and interrelated nature of climate challenges and improve the value of investments in climate-smart agriculture. Our expertise in climate change adaptation and mitigation analytics for the agricultural sector includes low- emission development strategies, emission inventories, water resource management, and vulnerability assessment.

Our local-to-global approach helps communities adapt to drought and floods, uses innovative technology to provide tailored climate and weather information to aid in decision making, and supports national and international climate planning and action. We work across sectors to address climate vulnerabilities, protect water resources, improve food security, safeguard livelihoods, and preserve economic and social development gains. We support comprehensive solutions that not only reduce atmospheric and land-based carbon emissions but also contribute to inclusive economic growth.

Education and Human Capital Development

We also develop robust Training of Trainers methodologies, recognizing the capacity building is a key to sustainability. Our staff design, implement, and manage education and workforce development programs. We partner with government agencies, donors, institutions, communities, and schools to increase access to and improve the delivery and quality of education services. We assess gender and inclusion performance in public and private institutions to deliver tailored capacity development services such as blended learning. Across multiple settings, formal and informal, we aim to increase equity and improve education outcomes for learners through a system-wide lens for enabling the learning environment and engaging key education stakeholders to drive education outcomes.

Our full range of training-related services include:

  • Curriculum development, including learning objectives, targeted exercise development, and hands-on learning models;
  • Training delivery and facilitation, including classroom presentations, Powerpoints, participant exercises, and breakout sessions; and
  • Classroom and remote, self-directed training
  • Multi-stakeholder knowledge sharing network building

Youth and Women Empowerment

Nature Today supports local stakeholders to strengthen the regulatory and institutional frameworks that underpin women and youth assuming leadership roles within their families, communities, and workplaces, and strengthen their leadership skills to allow for more effective engagement as decision-makers.
